Have you ever been part of a production, a play or show? Then you know success is inextricably tied to rehearsal time. Bethany and I just spent 5 days before school started “rehearsing” the first day of school. We went in twice a day, found her locker, opened her locker, met her teachers, practiced their […]

Don’t Limit Me!

I “pride” (tsk, tsk 😉 ) myself being one of Bethany’s foremost advocates; insisting she can learn, expecting her to achieve, facilitating inclusion, reaching for the stars. The Middle School meltdown opened my eyes! My role is shifting gears! Did you hear the sputter as I went from 2nd gear to 3rd? LOL- I’ve […]
Middle School Meltdown

Bethany and I really need your prayers this week and into the next. PLEASE. The smiling face above is not representative of our current situation 🙂 I know there will be treasure found in this leg of the journey- but we’re definitely not there yet! We’re facing the mountain of middle school. Yesterday, we went […]
Triumphant Treasure- great loss-Great Gain

Hello fellow Treasure hunters! I can’t wait for you to read about one of the precious treasures I’ve met in my journey! I first met Mid at FaithWriters- a Christian writing group where I’ve been blessed to meet sooooo many like-minded friends! I was at once drawn into her sparkling spirit! The more I learned […]
Teenager: Transformation Takeoff! – Happy Birthday Bethany

Make a stone altar and burn the fatted calf! Monumental Milestone! Our 7th child just turned into a teenager! Last time through the turbulent, terrific teens! Jesus was once a teenager! That kind of blows the mind eh? Of course He was perfect, but still, remember the “walkabout” He took when He was twelve? You […]
Why Seek the Living Among the Dead?

Jeff, Bethany, and I just got back from a whirlwind trip to Illinois, to visit my sister & her family, and my last living aunts and uncles, and cousins. Party Times! Precious times! As we were reminiscing, my Aunt inquired, “Cindy, are you going to McLean to visit the graves?” (my Mom, Jeff’s Dad, and […]
What Does our Life Smell like to God?

~
Did you know- God is taking deep breaths- smelling our lives!
When we serve others- our fragrance is perfume to Him.
When we love with His love- He breathes deeply, rejoicing in the zesty savor of our lives!
Our prayers- our praise- our worship- our devotion to Him- is something He delights, revels in, sings and rejoices over.
It is that tangible to Him.
Now Let’s Go Get Tomorrow

We just got back from a whirlwind trip to visit my sister & family, my cousins, and my Aunts and Uncles. Nostalgia- magic memories of days gone by- a time when things were simpler, kinder, sweeter; played in my mind like a haunting melody. Both Aunt Eleanor and Aunt Mary, who in my child’s […]
Prenatal Testing is Not a Crystal Ball

I can only think of 2 reasons why we would ascent to undergoing prenatal testing. 1) the ability to prepare yourself and do what you can to intervene or medically aid your child! 2) the ability to eliminate the child by abortion to prevent “suffering” – of the child- of the parents- of society… So there […]
~Almond Eyes~

When I submitted this poem to Faithwriters in 2010, it became the catalyst that gave me courage to write about my journey finding the Surprising Treasures hidden among the challenges and difficulties of life. Here’s the poem that started it all 🙂 ~ Through Almond Eyes ~ With childlike faith and simpleness Trusting and […]
Forever Family – Orphan No More

“You’re a piece of trash!” ……. …”I never wanted you!”……….. “You ruined my life.” …………….”I should have had an abortion.”……………. “I’m through with you.” …………………”You never do anything right!” …………………. “Why did I ever have kids?”………………. “You’re the biggest mistake I’ve made with my life.”………………. “I wish you had never been born.” You […]
The Spirit of Adoption Found Me

Family is the Template God created to illuminate His ever circling love for us as our Heavenly Father. I spend so much time & effort, BUILDING our family into a circle of faith and support, bound together by the invincible cords of love, that I tend to forget one very intricate “God-thing” that transformed my […]
Hearing Our Father’s Voice

? Have you ever wished you could hear- I mean with your ears HEAR God’s voice? [Tweet “God was not in the wind, or the earthquake, but in a still small #voice. #prayer “] I’ve never heard God’s audible voice but I’ve prayed I could, many times. I wish we could pick up the […]
Ohana means Family~ No One Gets Left Behind~

When we went to Disney World a few years ago- one of the highlights of our trip was a big family luau- On the wall of the entrance was a big sign 3 O H A N A s Because of watching Lilo and Stitch (see- watching movies with children are educational 😉 ) I […]
The Dreaded Evaluation

Breathing a sigh of relief here today. Yesterday was Bethany’s annual EVALUATION. Six years ago, Bethany finally got off a waiting list and was approved for a MR/DD Waiver. ick- ick- ICK!!!! (was that enough emphasis to get my point across 🙂 ) I hate the label- Mentally Retarded/ Developmentally Disabled. I mean really, who […]
