I totally underestimate what Bethany can hear and understand.
Yesterday, I was sharing with Jeff that although its exciting to watch the kids were growing up and having their own lives, jobs, careers, and families, it’s difficult to plan time for our “big family” to come together.
I started reminiscing about the “good old days” of togetherness when all my chicks were under my wings. But our chicks have flown and started nests of their own- except for Bethany- our youngest little bird still in my nest.
I shouldn’t complain- or even feel sad – they all live near and we see each other fairly regularly. But nostalgia, in the form of sadness had crept up on me and covered me in past memories!
As I lamented to Jeff, Bethany snuggled closer, seeming oblivious to the conversation. I finally finished my little lament. Before Jeff could respond, Bethany turned and gave me the biggest hug and kiss on the cheek. She put her hands on my cheeks and looked straight in my eyes (I do this when I want her to focus on what I’m saying to her 🙂 )!
Sweeter than honey and more healing than medicine came these words,
“But momma- you got to remember! You got ME forever!”
[Tweet “Momma’s hold their #children’s hands for a while, their #hearts #forever. #Family .”]
She saw my need. She heard my heart’s cry. She entered into the moment and wanted to assure me she was there for me!
[Tweet “God will never leave us- He’ll fill every #lonely place in our #hearts. #GodsLove”]
We need to remember- God sees our needs. He hears our hearts cry. He created us and He knows us better than we know ourselves! He knows we need fellowship- communion- connection- love- people in our lives. When I get lonely or start feeling blue, maybe I need to remember two things. He loves us and wants us to hear Him say:
“Cindy- (you fill in your name_________) I have engraved you on the palms of my hands. Nothing can separate you from my love. I’ll hold you forever !
AND He’s blessed us with eternal relationships with those who are called His own, throughout eternity.
When you feel lonely or sad, how do you cope?
The treasure is discovered when we begin to live in the reality of the moment and learn to turn our lonely hearts to Him to be filled with His presence and love!
I needed this message tonight 🙂 Thank you for the reminder (Cindy AND Bethany 🙂 )
Mary P.
Sweet Mary- praying for you and your mom- may you know God’s peace and overshadowing love. Miss you! <3
Precious Bethany! And precious YOU for letting us in on your conversation-experience. My eyes are wet around the edges! 🙂
Edy- hugs- It’s small mighty moments like these that opened my eyes to see all the hidden treasure lying right before me- I just have to pick it up and treasure it!
