I can only think of 2 reasons why we would ascent to undergoing prenatal testing.
1) the ability to prepare yourself and do what you can to intervene or medically aid your child!
2) the ability to eliminate the child by abortion to prevent “suffering” – of the child- of the parents- of society…
So there they are- two very black and white Reasons for Prenatal Testing
~
I want to emphasize:
[Tweet “Prenatal testing is not a crystal ball. #prenatal #test #answers”]
It can’t predict the future.
It has no psychic power.
In fact, it’s power is limited and uncertain, at best.
~
It seems to me the only power it does have is to strike FEAR in your heart;
Fear of your future and fear of your child’s future.
It can only project cold, stark, facts about genetics, norms, labels, and broad spectrum analysis.
PRENATAL TESTING IS SHORTSIGHTED! For the 9 out of 10 women who take the test for the 2nd reason, let me tell you what the test won’t tell you.
Prenatal testing can’t tell you how happy your child will be.
[Tweet “Prenatal #tests can’t tell you how #happy your #child will be. #prenatal”]
It can’t illuminate the treasure of learning to love unconditionally, a child with “special needs.”
Prenatal Testing can’t foresee the beauty or challenges, treasure or trial, the pain or the pride you’ll experience with your child.
Prenatal testing can’t envisage a miraculous intervention of God.
It can’t predict if a breakthrough scientific discovery will be made.
It can’t apprehend the overcoming hope and power of God in individual lives.
Prenatal testing can’t divine if your other wise healthy child will encounter tragedy or challenges and become handicapped or disabled, sometime in their lifetime.
It cannot prophesy the future.
It cannot reveal the far-reaching ripples of riches found in each God-stamped soul!
Pre-natal testing will never divulge the people’s hearts that will be touched, all because your child lives.
So why put so much stock in a test that’s so limited?
If we could just know the amazing depths of God’s love,
if we could just see clearly, the treasure of each person,
the blessing of giving honor and respect to all-
no matter what bodily package they journey through earth with.

If we could just believe God has a plan- that someday will be revealed
and until then- we break out of our prison of FEAR and choose to love all life!

“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”
100% Amen, Cindy! I don’t know the statistics on option #1, but I suspect the second option is the real agenda, a “search and destroy” mission. (Some of the pro-abortion arguments I’ve heard are enough to curl a person’s hair.) Thank you for this thoughtful post; I appreciate you!
Thanks Edy- I started thinking – What is the real advantage? Why is it necessary? Most people don’t stop to think about what miniscule information a prenatal test really tells us. What’s really scary to me???? believing we have the right to “pre-screen” our children and choose to eliminate them if we don’t like their genetics, sex, or “proclivity” toward a disease. A slippery slope indeed!
Oh Cindy!
So much truth here. You definitely made me think about what I would do in any future pregnancies of my own. And you’re right: I am not God and neither is that test. He always has a plan and who am I to behoove a piece of that plan?
I love how you said that Carissa! It’s foundational that young women think through these issues BEFORE they face them. It’s always better to make an unemotional, far-reaching decision so that if something ever comes up- you can default easily to your well-thought out position of LIFE. hugs and thanks for commenting!
