Who doesn’t love a good story? My Dad is a walking “story” book of past days- go ahead, ask him anything and it will trigger a story- but be ready to sit down a spell to listen. 🙂 Cohen, Finley, & Bethany love me to read and “make up” stories where they are the adventurers and ultimately heroes! I, love getting swept away by a good story. My hubby thinks he can “read” a book by jumping to the end of the story. He may know how it all ends, but he’s missed the ups and downs, twists and turns, happy and sad journey that makes the ending triumphant.
I remember our “happily ever after day.” sigh It was a fairytale day! The day we got married, our journey began. It’s the point in time where “happily ever after” is supposed to begin. (is it just me, or do you think it might be a little dishonest to let fairy tales end with the wedding and a tag, “they lived happily ever after?” I mean the hard work is just beginning 🙂 )
Just look at our dewy-eyed fresh “We can take on the world” looks. Out latest pic shows that life can sure take some of that “youthfulness” out of ya! I digress, so back to the point. A song that was sung at our wedding said this,
“We don’t know what tomorrow holds, but we know Who holds tomorrow.
Knowing this, we’ll live above the world and all its sorrows….”
Here’s my thought.Â

I’m so glad God only reveals one day at a time!! If He would have told me my future storyline,  ( ie..the death of a child, struggling with depression, a child born with a disability, the pain of watching loss touch our children through divorce & miscarriage) I would have freaked out! The “negatives” would have become giants in my mind!
Â
There is no way I would have been able foresee and know the overriding joy of His presence! I couldn’t have comprehended the hidden glory and riches that would be revealed through the “dark” times. In hindsight, my overwhelming thought is, “Why have You blessed me so much and given me such a wonderful life?” He has been so faithful to ALWAYS give me beauty for ashes!
But our story is more than what happens to us in this life.
Our story is found in WHO happens to walk with us while life is coming at us!
Think about this for a moment: He is the only One who knows our beginning and end! Only He is committed 100% to loving and redeeming our lives!
No one; not our parents, not our spouse, not our best friends- no one, can love us or save us or work things together for the good, except Jesus- the Author and Finisher, the Lover of our souls!

When we hit a hit a overwhelmingly difficult “chapter”, He will carry us through it! Then we rest in the promise that when our book is finished, our story will be transformed by His glory and we’ll begin our final story in eternity with Him. This story, won’t start with Once Upon a Time- It will begin with “And they lived Happily Every After”.

Surprising Treasures:Â “I have cared for you since you were born.
Yes, I carried you before you were born.
I will be your God throughout your lifetime—
until your hair is white with age.
I made you, and I will care for you.
I will carry you along and save you.”
ISAIAH 46:3
Cindy is right! We didn’t know what tomorrow would hold. But through it all, in spite of it all, we have become absolutely convinced that The Lord holds every tomorrow. And by the way, I still really dig holding Cindy’s hand!
haha- I love holding your hand too! *have you noticed our hands don’t look the same as they did when we got married and we put our rings on? 🙂 we are movin’ on up there babe.
The song “We’ve come this far by faith, leaning on the Lord,” comes to mind. I know if I stray outside the “present” in the “presence” of Jesus, it is so easy to dispair what the future might hold (given what we’ve already seen of life). That brings another song to mind “I look not back…I look not round me, (etc.)…But, I look up, into the face of Jesus, and there my heart can rest, my fears are stilled….” How blessed we are! Thanks for reminding us, dear Cindy!
Amen Edy! another line of a song- He didn’t bring us this far to leave us… It seems the prayer of my heart is “teach me to dwell in your secret place- under your wings” I’ve lived there many times but still manage to leave His safety and nurture and get back in the “war zone” 🙂 Turn our eyes upon Jesus- look full in His wonderful face- and the things of earth will grow strangely dim- in the light of His glory and grace. <3
Another favorite hymn – the poetry-lyrics with the melody touch one’s heart for good.
“And God began their Happily Ever After!” I love that! And it fits in perfectly to the reasons why I love writing romance. Our relationship with God is the ultimate romance story.
Aww Julie- thanks for commenting! I love Christian romance- and it’s even better now than it was 30 years ago- because it’s so much more authentic and real and anchored in Christ. I can’t wait to start reading your book tonight 🙂 Canyon Walls sound amazing!

I once heard, “Anxiety is looking in the future without putting God in the equation.” I know when Adrienne and I started our happily ever after, I thought we could take on the world, but a few years of experience taught us we can do nothing without him. He holds us today, tomorrow and forever. Thank God!
Great thought Micah! Thank God indeed! He is our anchor, our breath of life, our joy, our everything! So proud of you and Adrienne, how you are seeking the Lord in all areas of your life! hugs
