[Tweet “Small Beginnings lay the foundation for Bigger Adventures. #specialneeds #downsyndrome #opportunity”]
Opportunity came knocking and we answered the door!
I just love God stories: those life moments where God has orchestrated everything to crescendo into a resounding chord!
Let me start at the beginning 🙂
My beautiful friend, Julie, has stepped into grandmother/mentor/encourager role with our Bethany. They had lunch and hung out. Before Julie brought her home they had a time of prayer! (oh how precious it is to have other people in your child’s life that will nurture them in the faith)
Julie asked Bethany, “What should we pray for? Is there something you want God to do in your life?”
“I really want a summer job, Grandma! Can we pray for that?”
Two days later, our daughter, Sarah was downtown, in a small but quaint business area where they sell art, antiques, and second hand furniture. A “random” conversation with Tracy, one of the owners of the Art House occurred.
Tracy mentioned that she (and the other two owners) were paras at a local school. Somehow, the conversation turned to one of her students; a third grade entrepreneur who baked his own dog biscuits. They were selling his dog treats at the store and added that this young boy happened to have down syndrome.
Sarah responded casually, “That’s really neat! My sister, Bethany, has down syndrome.”
Tracy stopped and said, “Wait- your sister has down syndrome? How old is she?”
“She’s sixteen going on 21”, Sarah laughed.
Wait for it! ……… Crescendo!
“Would she want a summer job?”
“Are you serious? She’s been praying for one!” (for two days!)
Cymbal Clash!
A week later, we met with Tracy and she proposed the job idea to Bethany. They were hoping to have her come start a coffee cart in front of their shop. She went on to explain, a local guy, who roasted his own coffee, would donate his coffee and hot pots (FREE) so she wouldn’t have any overhead from providing coffee. (WOW! Thank you Lord- when you provide- you go over the top!) They also wanted her to feel free to bake or make anything she wanted to or provide other drinks. They weren’t hiring her but giving her an opportunity to build her own business!

And so~ “DayMaker– baked by Beth ” was born.
And the Lord rejoiced to see the work begin!
(more to come)
Surprising Treasure: The Lord- the King- rejoices and delights with small, humble beginnings!
So grateful for the small things that God does in such big ways and the big things that God does in such small ways. It is His nature to surprise in ways that give Him praise.
We have a good- GOOD Father! One day- our eyes will be fully opened to see the goodness and treasure He loaded our life with!
Wow! God is so amazing, isn’t He? Best of luck and tons of success to Bethany in her new adventure.
Love your little treasures. They always find a way to touch my heart.♥
Susan
Thanks so much Susan. We may wonder- Is there a God? and if there is- does He really care about me? He has shown Himself to me in the minute and the grand- and I’ve probably missed more treasures than I’ve discovered. Learning to revel in His love and care! hugs
