Hey Moms! Have you ever felt a bit like a “town crier”? You know- walking your “beat”, repeatedly ringing your hand bell and proclaiming- “Hear ye, Hear ye, listen up! Here’s the scoop- hey- are you really listening?!
a
If there was only a way to say it once and for all! 🙂
s
If I had a dollar for every time Bethany asked me “What’d you say Mom?” – Jeff and I would already have taken that trip to bonnie Scotland we dream about.
a
Bethany has a multitude of reasons why she doesn’t hear very well.- doesn’t every child? lol
1) She’s thirteen and tunes out adults while she’s in her own little world.
z
2) Because of her down syndrome, she frequently has fluid build-up in her ears, making it challenging to understand what was articulated.
a
3.) Because of her special needs, she has problems with auditory processing– the spoken word doesn’t always translate correctly to her brain. We often have to engage her other senses; sight, touch, smell, to add more explanation.
a
Add that to the challenge that information often needs to be REPEATED because the simple fact is kids with disabilities need to have something repeated a whole bunch more (how’s that for scientific? lol) before it can go from their short term memory to their long term memory.
Things have to be repeated to get from short term memory to long term memory. 😉
I’ll never forget teaching her math facts. I’d teach 3 or 4 flash cards with math facts, she would “know” the answer. But the next day- it was like we had never learned it! She’d look at me blankly until I would tell her the answer again. This would happen day after day for a week or two. Then, finally, the “magic” happened.

She heard the fact(s) – and finally the synapses engraved her memory with knowledge and understanding!

I used to get frustrated with repeating the information, but I don’t anymore. Repetition until comprehension it’s a fact of life. It’s my JOY to make it clear and understandable! I LOVE watching the magic happen!
Similarly— There are few people who hear the Good News- the Gospel of Truth- and understand and embrace it, upon their first hearing.

a
Then again, some people are really “tuned out”! Their hearts and minds are set to a different radio station and they can’t hear the music of His grace.
[Tweet “Oh God, give us #ears to hear and a heart that obeys. #faith #joy”]
s
Others understand when they hear the story explained a few different ways; perhaps with pictures or the advantage of seeing someone living the Gospel right in front of them.
Then- there are some who have special needs- they NEED to have the Gospel repeated and repeated and repeated- until the “magic” finally happens and the truth engraves itself on their heart!
To those of us who walk in His light- we are to be Kingdom Criers! Repeaters of sounding joy! Repeat the sounding joy! Repeat it until the whole world hears. Repeat it until all understand and comprehend His gospel of Peace.

s
Sing it, shout it, live it, share it, speak it, pray it, bring it, encourage it, tell it, proclaim it,
whisper it, blast it
but whatever you do- keep repeating the Good News of Great Joy…..
not just until they “hear” but until they BELIEVE!
“…and AGAIN I say, Rejoice!” I just love your fresh insights that work so well to encourage us, your readers, to continue declaring the word of the Lord. I learn from you with every post you write. Thank you, dear Cindy!
We will tell of His glorious Kingdom!!!! It is come and it is coming! What exciting days we live in! Joy is just bouncing off my heart these days and I want everyone to know Him! hugs Edy! love you and your encouragement! Merry CHRISTmas!
God told Joshua, “Keep the Book of the Law always on you lips, meditate on it day and night…” (Joshua 1:8). The Hebrew word for meditate means to speak something out loud over and over and over. The sounding joy of Jesus bares repeating… over and over and over… Because at some level all of us are learning disabled.
what did you say? lol- I know I can hear the message and it can have new depths every time! resounding joy- repeating glory-
Love how you wrote this message, Cindy! You wove it together so beautiful. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Thanks Julie- I’m amazed how God teaches me- the very things that can frustrate me- like repeating something- can actually be a blessing- Bethany constantly reminds me of God’s patience and love for me- I can be slow on the uptake but He is so gracious and long-suffering- willing to keep repeating His Word until I grow into His truth! hugs and Merry Christmas to you and yours!
A worthy reminder… Hopeful!
