When I submitted this poem to Faithwriters in 2010, it became the catalyst that gave me courage to write about my journey finding the Surprising Treasures hidden among the challenges and difficulties of life.
Here’s the poem that started it all 🙂
With childlike faith and simpleness
Trusting and exposed
I wonder….
Would it make me sad or wise?
What would it be like?
If I could see through almond eyes.
What a trust I have
To teach and shield and shelter
This little one
Whose weakness some despise
All because she looks and sees
through dazzling almond eyes.
Uncomplicated, straightforward
Her mind is lacking strength
But being filled with love and grace
We should not be surprised
Observing the compassion
She shares with almond eyes.
A bundle of joy and energy
Embracing those around
Greets every challenge big or small
Nothing’s too hard to try
Enthusiasm flashes
through sparkling almond eyes.
Unhurried, childlike faith
Naïve and sometimes slow
Even though she learns and grows
She still bleeds and cries
My heart breaks into pieces
Seeing tears in almond eyes.
Delicate beauty,
This precious soul
In weakness she is strong
Her spirit shines as she relies
Arms open to her Father
With trusting almond eyes.
There are those who cannot see
The depth of splendor there
They overlook the treasure
But blindness flees as you gaze
You never will deny
The mystery of God’s love for all
Shining from those almond eyes.

Beautiful….simply beautiful.
thank you my sweet friend! You, yourself know the beauty hidden within! hugs
Beautiful Indeed! This poem still makes me cry… Thank you for writing Sweetheart!
God has a plan, doesn’t He! Through all the almond eyes, He helps us catch a glimpse of His unconditional love for us.
I’d love to see this poem in a book illustrated with some of your beautiful photos. I found this way (I want to try, myself) to “start small” and see where it leads:

Thank you for the link! That sounds like a great idea! What a journey we are on! I think of Pilgrim’s Progress or Hinds Feet on High Places as example…I can never thank God enough for leading me to Faithwriters and my incredible friends there- and especially you, Edy! I always wanted a big sister- and God saw the needs of my heart- so thankful for your encouragement and support!
