Do you remember the story of the two women coming before King Solomon….. fighting about who “owned” the baby in question
When Solomon offered to cut the baby in half so that they could “share” the baby,
the true mother became evident by her sacrificial love.
~
I read an even more bizarre news story today! Thankfully, as in the Bible account- true love wins.
A surrogate woman was offered $10,000.00 to abort the child she was carrying for a couple from their frozen embryo: because the child was screened & found she had “disabilities”. You really should take the time to click on the link & read the article! The twists & turns of this story are stranger than anything I could ever come up with! Surrogate Fight for Baby S
Abortion explained, accepted, rejected, law suits and threats, the surrogate mother fled the state and contacted parents who embraced the baby- special needs and all. And here we come to the core issue.
When does life begin
and
who “owns” the growing life?
Is the gift of life
ours to do with what we please?
Can we terminate life
anytime, anywhere, for any reason?
Is there such a thing as a
“worthy life” and “substandard life”?
[Tweet “Who gets to decide if a person is worthy enough to live? #abortion #infanticide #euthenasia”]
I offer this quote that offers perspective:
“Her adoptive parents know some people look at her and see a baby born to suffer — a baby who’s suffering could have been prevented with an abortion.
“But that’s not the way they see it. They see a little girl who makes eye contact, giggle at her siblings, grab toys, eye strangers warily. “’S. wakes up every single morning with an infectious smile. She greets her world with a constant sense of enthusiasm,’ her mother said in an e-mail to CNN. ‘we hold onto a faith that in providing S. with love, opportunity, encouragement, she will be the one to show us what is possible for her life and what she is capable of achieving.’”
One view believes love achieves miracles
and every life has value-
the other view believes death and termination
eliminates one’s suffering in this world.
Lord, help me always choose the blessing of life- no matter how challenging or difficult it might be.
Surprising Treasure: God’s patience and love for all of us as we muddle through life! BTW- God did give us a choice- but He told us what to choose to be blessed.
God bless that surrogate mother! I just listened to testimony on EWTN tv comparing all the complications attending the push for same-sex “marriage.” The tie-in with slavery and treating children as a commodity, as opposed to what is best for the child, was eye opening. Thanks, again, for another encouraging post, Cindy! Hugs!
Amen- she has courage! Truth is stranger than fiction eh? I can hardly believe the “Pandora’s” box of moral dilemma we’ve opened… but through it all – He reigns Supreme! Hallelujah! Love ya Edy!
So powerful, Cindy!! Loved this post.
Thanks Julie! I’m blown away by our dilemmas but then I look in the Bible and see a similar story and realize- there’s really nothing new under the sun and that God’s truth is still what we need to seek and obey! hugs sweet friend!
Amen! This one is so special to me. I volunteer in a pregnancy resource center. hugs right back! xo
Isn’t that amazing- we have a young woman we’re working with right now- so many layers and complications but through it all- one thing is over all- the precious life of that new life! *
What an amazing story. We never know what God has in store for those who were not wanted at birth and yet, against all odds were allowed to live. All life is precious… I know, as one who was not wanted at birth, but was allowed by God to live. Out of a very large his, hers and theirs family, the Lord drew me to Himself and has blessed, even in spite of my faults and failures. All I can do is praise and serve Him to the best of my ability. Who knows what lives will be touched for God’s glory by this precious little girl!!
Mid- I can’t wait for your book to be published! It breaks my heart to think you weren’t “wanted” but there was the One who not only wanted you but rejoiced over you with singing! God is so amazing at that kind of thing- working impossible into His glory! hugs Mid!
I heard about that story earlier this week, and that’s just crazy! But it does make yourself think about life, and the importance of it. I know God has a plan for that little girl for however long she is in this world. Its funny because we pretend we are going to live forever or we know we are going to live until were 100 but that’s not the case. God had plan for us all and he has a time for us all. Let us not forget that, so we can love every minute of life.
I love that Micah- you said ” we pretend we are going to live for forever” we do and that diminishes the joy and love we can experience- kinda like that song- live like you’re dying… God has a plan- we take comfort in that!
