School is over and our summer schedule is getting ready to commence! Life comes atcha fast- sometimes the mundane and difficult things in life CROWD out the treasure we’re supposed to experience each day. SO- Finley, Cohen, Bethany, and I made our summer “bucket list” yesterday. We PLANNED our fun! We brainstormed about things we want to do, see, or accomplish before August! Along with nature walks and starting a fossil collection (Finley 🙂 ) we want to attend a rodeo for the first time, go fishing, paint, have play dates, read about Amelia Earhart and visit her home in Atchison…these were just a few of the things we planned.
I’m making plans too! I’m not planning so I have more to do- I’m planning so I can enjoy the more important things in life!!! I’m going to lead a Book Chat on Hind’s Feet on High Places, make walking and losing weight a priority, home school 30 min. a day with Bethany, and HAVE LOTS OF FUN enjoying God, family and friends! I love summertime- it allows me a slower pace- a different perspective of life without constant deadlines or timetables. We’re headed to Galveston, Texas tomorrow to soak up the ocean breeze, pick up sea shells, and experience magnificent sunrises and sunsets!
Life can be so full of draining, tiresome, weary things.
Why not take a moment to make your summer bucket list today!
What dreams and wishes are you going to make realities this summer?
Dream more,
Wish more,
Love more,
Enjoy more,
Rest more,
Rejoice More,
Absorb More,
Move more!
I think we need to really hear this verse again 🙂 “So I recommend having fun, because there is nothing better for people in this world than to eat, drink, and enjoy life. That way they will experience some happiness along with all the hard work God gives them under the sun.” Ecclesiates 3:13
Great idea, Cindy! If we don’t plan those special times (“…to experience some happiness along with all the hard work God gives them under the sun.” Ecclesiates 3) we’ll miss a lot of memories for our children to relish when they have to endure their hard times. I shall begin my own bucket list! 🙂
Yup! I decided bucket lists don’t have to be for the “end of life” but all through life! Small things or big- the point is to plan and do it!
I remember when my brother’s and I were working on our dad’s eulogy. We landed in Ecclesiastes. It is an earthy, easily overlooked book that reminds us to keep tears/laughter, work/play and heaven/earth in perspective/ Heaven is our future home, but it’s okay to enjoy life on earth too. Ecclesiastes reminds us to do that. Dad worked hard. Illinois State Trooper and usually had a second job too. But when it was time to “play” we played. Three to four weeks on Boal Shoals Lake at the trailer- fishing and water skiing. Cub games, annual trip to The Loop in Chicago between Thanksgiving and Christmas, etc. I am grateful for my dad’s example of work and play.
Amen friend! Enjoy your trip and your beautiful family!!
Thank Lori- hope you have an amazing summer 🙂
Scheduling fun was one thing my counselor consistently urged me to do for mental health. And only this morning I noticed my “fun” list is empty. (I got in the habit of keeping one.) Thank you and thank God for your perfect timing and message!
Sweet Serena, I realized that I had been letting life slide by without a lot of planning- especially for fun- I’m bummed that it took me until July to “wake up” but I’m back on track. It’s funny, how a simple thing like planning for fun- gives us such joy & excitement, looking forward to little life happenings 🙂 Hugs to you- have fun time living your summer bucket list!
