We were stunned! It was finally over! VICTORY had come! We had WON?! You could hear the town erupt in celebration; horns honking, people shouting, fireworks exploding. We were compelled by an unseen force to jump into the convertible and drive through the streets and join the revelry! It was mayhem on the roads. Bumper to Bumper traffic, streets closed off as people waved flags and danced in the streets in celebration! People leaning out windows with hands triumphantly extended! A camaraderie bound us together! “Their” victory was OUR victory!
Bethany was giggling and alternately whooping! Suddenly, she yelled, “Where are we going?” Jeff and I laughed, “We don’t know.” “No, really” she yelled, “Where are we going?” In our excitement we responded “We’re going to celebrate!”
What were we celebrating?
The Jayhawks (Rock Chalk Jayhawk go KU!) had beaten Ohio to go into the final game of the National Championships! (translated- we’re playing for the #1 or #2 spot in the NATION! for college basketball)
(If this is how they celebrate, I can’t imagine what Monday night will look like if we win 🙂 )
Though I was swept up in the moment, I was acutely aware this celebration was nothing compared to what it will be on the day the Lord steps foot on this earth again! We will be stunned. There will be shouting, there will be weeping when some realize their loss! There will be celebration and dancing, singing and rejoicing! Hope will be realized as the truth sinks in: It’s really over! An ending to this anxiety filled life!?! Our adversary has been dealt the final blow! Oh yes, we will be swept up into a cacophonous celebration! Nothing will matter except the resounding reality, WE WON! WE REALLY WON!!! WE WON because HE WON completely and indisputably!!
HIS VICTORY WILL BECOME OUR VICTORY!
The amazing difference is the “title” of WINNER will be settled permanently! He is the RISEN LORD who trampled over death, hell, and the grave!! EVERY opponent will have been soundly defeated!!! He is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. He has triumphed gloriously and every knee will bow and every tongue confess, “HE IS THE VICTOR! KING of kings and LORD of lords! TO HIM BE ALL GLORY AND POWER FOREVER AND EVER!”
Surprising Treasures: Oh for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemers praise! The glories of my God and King- the TRIUMPHS OF HIS GRACE!!!!!!!
Not being critical only observing and commenting on the obvious… I think believers need to learn how to be a little less self conscious of themselves. But let’s face it, if we demonstrated public enthusiasm for Jesus equal to our enthusiasm for KU… Well let’s just say things would be different… I understand the jayhawks and Jesus are apples and a fine diamond by comparison… I just say don’t be ashamed of the diamond. “The Diamond” is unashamed of us… He died for us in spite of the shameful things we’ve done. Great post Sweetheart!
For the true Rock Chalk of Ages!
Rock of Ages! Lord of the Earth and King of the Universe!
Amen, Cindy! Then our joy will know no bounds – how wonderful that could be we can scarcely imagine.
If C.S. Lewis is right, and we live in the “shadowlands”- WOW! what will it be like when we enter the weight of His glory?! Woot! Woot! hugs Edy
