Beauty is in the eye of….
Our Creator
(betcha thought I was going to say beholder 🙂 )

Besides log throwing, kilt inspecting, bag-piping parades and Highland dancing; face painting was one of the tents we visited at the Scottish Festival in KC. Heads together, chattering excitedly, Bethany and Finley conspired just how they wanted their face painted. Finley wanted to be a pink butterfly, and Bethany wanted to be a purple fairy. Finley admired her results in the mirror as we all told her she looked beautiful and Bethany jumped into the chair.
I watched as the woman drew enchanting lines and put little jewels on Bethany. Bethany looked in the mirror but didn’t say anything. As soon as we moved away from the tent, she started tearing up and saying, “But Mommy- I wanted to be purple! All purple!!!” as she motioned to her face. No amount of telling her she was beautiful would appease her.
It just wasn’t how SHE wanted to look.

You know, it shocks me, but there are parents who have chosen to have corrective surgery for their child with downs syndrome? They are convinced that if their child could just look “normal” (whatever that is) their child would have a better chance in life. I wouldn’t change my Almond Eyed girl for anything- it’s who God made her and she is fearfully and wonderfully made- just like everyone else.

Most of us wouldn’t go that far to change our appearances but it brings up two essentials.
I have to gift my children (especially daughters and granddaughters 🙂 ) with healthy self-esteem rooted in the fact they are God’s creation- His masterpiece and I have to teach them what Jesus thinks is beautiful.

Jesus is observing their hearts;
the loveliness of service for others,
the exquisite aroma from their worship,
and the splendor of a woman who loves
and follows the Lord with all of their being.

“Spirit” beauty will last throughout the ages!
so don’t put your trust in face paint- 🙂
Surprising Treasure: Man looks on the outward appearance, but God looks upon our hearts!
Completely and utterly agree!

Love it! And those faces are so beautiful. Thanks for writing another bright jewel to add sparkle to our life!
I wish I had gotten a picture of Cohen- it’s funny how they each got something that reflected their personality- Cohen had a tattoo of a dragon on his cheek- LOL
Once again, Cindy, your words have strummed a chord within my heart & mind–what is that fragile connection between inner & outer beauty?
There is that connection isn’t there? I think it’s important to “be the best you can be” – obviously there are many references to beautiful women in the Bible and we all yearn to be beautiful— but somehow still be anchored in the beauty that comes from reflecting His beauty in our lives.
Great story Cindy.
It shows that no matter what others may think, it is how we perceive ourselves that makes us satisfied with our outward looks. Thank God He sees our inner beauty and that is what is most important. Again you made me look inside of myself.
Thanks Charlene- I know it’s an area we probably deal with throughout our life- although as I’ve gotten older, I’m more accepting of myself. Love ya.
