How many Kings stepped down from their thrones?
How many Lords have abandoned their homes?
How many Greats have become the Least for me?
How many “gods” have poured out their hearts, to romance a world that is torn all apart?
How many Fathers gave up their Sons for me?
Only One did that for me!
As we approach the most incomprehensible days in all of history,
I want to think about some difficult, sometimes horrific things people sometimes go through in this earthly journey.
alzheimers, anacephaly, alcoholism, autism, broken heartedness, cerebral palsy, cancer, chronic pain, divorce, death of a child, disabilities of all kinds, drug abuse, death of a spouse, depression, loss of every kind, miseries, poverty, loneliness, mental illness, suicide of a loved one, terrors, abuses……
Is there any treasure to be found while walking through these things?
No-
the treasure is not IN these things
The treasure is found in the One who helps us through these things,
dying to redeem us
so that in eternity we will share in His glory!
As we approach the contemplation of His suffering and death, the silence of the grave, and the power and hope of the Resurrection, I’ll be sharing others , how they too, have found the treasures Jesus has given them in their darkest times.
PLEASE LEAVE COMMENTS, PRAYERS, OR BIBLE VERSES THAT HAVE HELPED YOU LIVE THIS LIFE OF CHALLENGES, TRUSTING IN THE VICTORY JESUS GIVES. LET’S ENCOURAGE ONE ANOTHER WITH THE HOPE HE GIVES US!
Surprising Treasure:What is Surprising Treasures
“Whither shall I go from thy Spirit? Or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend to heaven, thou art there! If I make my bed in Sheol [aka “hell;” yes, even that!], thou art there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there thy hand shall lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.” —Psalm 139:7-10
This was the comfort I took with me to the combat zone of Vietnam. Because of Emmanuel (God with us) we are never, ever, alone in our wilderness journey.
During this Holy Week, I’m reminded of the most heart-wrenching scene from the movie The Passion of the Christ: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8L0pYDAMD34&feature=related
Perhaps because I’m a nurse, it reminds me that too often we are helpless to relieve someone’s suffering. All we can do is just be there (as part of the body of Christ with “skin on”), so the person isn’t suffering alone.
Another favorite comfort quote is from Corrie ten Boom: “There is no pit so deep, but God’s love is deeper still.”
Praise the Lord! What a wonderful Savior and Shepherd cares for us!
The first time I saw the Passion of Christ- I lost it at that scene- We must never believe- God doesn’t “see” or understand or suffering- His passion proves it! I love both thoughts-
no platitudes or “easy answers” be Christ to others
and
the quote from Corrie Ten Boom is GOLD- if anyone has earned the right to say that- she did! She knew from experience- Her God- our God’s love is deeper still! Hallelujah!!!
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and He shall make your paths straight.” Love that verse.
I love that verse too Angela- trust is sometimes hard but grows as we grow in our understanding of His deep love and commitment to us- His children! hugs
