[Tweet “I want to live IN God’s Will for my #life, following His way, not my own!”]
I’m Sarah- Cindy’s oldest daughter- sharing my thoughts with you today 🙂
I want my prayers to reflect that. So—– the question of the day was “what to pray?” Have you ever thought, “if I could ever form the right words to form my prayer (to GRAB God’s attention) maybe I’d find the ‘magic’ formula to know God’s will for my life? Blame it on Walt Disney World for making us believe that saying just the right order of syllables and sounds will produce our desired results with a grand flourish of pixie dust! 🙂
Prayer is not the magic flourish of words or a spell- it’s a heart to heart talk with our Heavenly Father.
[Tweet “The truth is- we know God mostly speaks in whispers- He rarely writes on walls. #prayer”]
When Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit to be our constant comforter, I believe it gave us freedom to move forward in our lives, knowing that no matter what choices we make- He is there with us! The more we loop Him in the decisions we make, the better the likelihood that He is honored and blessed by the results.
So, my prayer today wasn’t a tongue twister; it’s not set to music; it doesn’t rhyme; it doesn’t consist of hand motions or even any kneeling/bowing/standing/twisting/jumping….But I did use some of His own words hoping He’d recognize them 🙂 “God, give me a compassionate heart,
a basic holiness
that affects my decision making
and direct my energies wisely.
Amen”Simple. Effective. And I’m pretty sure I already heard a clear answer-
“Sure! I can do that. Thanks for asking!”
Blessings today- from Sarah 🙂
Surprising Treasure: Like the Staple commercial says, “THAT WAS EASY”. I finished praying after mile marker 17 and I think I saw a little sparkle in the air.
Galations 5:22-23, ” BUT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE LIVE IN GOD’S WAY? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way fruit appears in an orchard-things like affection for one another, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a compassion from the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal comments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely.
Galatians 5:22-23 “But what happens when we live God’s way? We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely.”
This was wonderful Sarah….I have oft times wondered if my prayers were “good ” enough to reach God and I sometimes worried about how my prayers might sound to Him ..Especially when others seemed to have a more “perfect prayer”.But as you so aptly put it, we just need to remind Him of His Word because He seeks to perform it. I have to ask for the wisdom that He gave to Solomon and then I am going to start looking for that sparkle in the air That I am sure you saw. 🙂 You and your mom should get together for a good book!
Uh, that was my daughter! She reelly writs guud! 🙂
Seriously- Sarah, I think you captured the simple, yet profound essence of why we need to pray, not as a legalistic requirement, but as a relational expedient!
Dittos to Charlene! And, I want an autographed copy 🙂 Your writing touches my heart, and reminds me of the hymn “Prayer is the soul’s sincere desire, unuttered or expressed….” To think that He knows what we have need of before we can even ask or think just blows my mind. All that is left to do, as Corrie ten Boom said, is “don’t wrestle, just nestle” in His bosom and enjoy a hearty conversation with the Lover of our souls.
