Birds serenaded us as we walked, hand in hand, through Finley Forest. (thus named by Finley of course 🙂 ) The breeze caused a shower of crabapple blossoms to swirl around us. Finley exclaimed, “Look Nana, God is making the flowers dance for us!” I hummed the old hymn- “This is my Father’s World” as I breathed in the beauty of the day! Everything was cause for celebration!
“Nana, look at these beautiful dandelions!” “Mommy, look! There’s a butterfly.” “Nana, look at this stick!!” This was said by Cohen with great awe for we all know how little boys love sticks. For an hour and a half, we leisurely explored Finley Forest; finding bugs, and animal tracks in the mud, columbine, and birds nests. We threw little twigs into a gurgling creek and made up stories about sleeping dragons.
Surely, this is what Jesus meant when He told us to become like little children. Finley, Cohen, and Bethany ran from treasure to treasure. Each being wondrous in the sight of the beholder. They SAW the rich treasure that lies around us- waiting to be noticed, to be understood, to be appreciated.
[Tweet “Do we SEE the treasure that lies around us; just waiting to be discovered?”]
I felt strangely alive- lifted out of my monotonous little world of laundry, dishes, bills, and a myriad of grown up responsibilities. I was a child again. I was at peace in my Father’s World and He was taking care of everything.
Cohen interrupted my reverie with a shout. “Come quick Nana! Come quick.”
I hurried over to see his discovery. He was bent down pointing to something. “Look! Look what I found?”
I knelt down and looked. “What Cohen, what is it you see?”
He pointed again. “Look. Right there. I found him!”
I was puzzled until I saw what he was so pleased with. He seemed to be pointing at nothing.
Suddenly it dawned on me. I said, “You mean your shadow Cohen? Are you pointing to your shadow?”
“Yeah, I sure wundered where dat guy had gone!”  🙂
I love my grandkids!!!!
Jesus has come to seek and find even the most elusive-
He is the Great Shepherd of Souls- leaving the 99 until the last 1 is
FOUND!

Surprising Treasure– Jesus really SEES true treasure and Jesus seeks for His lost sheep, His lost coin, His lost treasure. When they are found, there is much celebration in heaven!!! No treasure is too small or unworthy of His care and love. He rejoices over you with song!
Your adventure reminds me of a line in a poem I wrote for my oldest nephew, when he finally got a baby brother after waiting through four sisters: “…I was little once, like you, seeing everything brand new.” What a treasure to see God’s creation through the eyes of little observers! They have much to teach us about becoming as little children once again. I can almost hear God chuckling along with us as we enjoy walking with our little companions.
Too cute! I’m convinced you’re right- maybe we need to become “little” again (not filled with such self importance) so we can see everything brand new. 🙂 Hugs-
Of course I absolutely love this story of the kids exploration of the beauty of all God’s creation.
thank you Barb! Is there anything more wonderful than walking in creation and getting to experience it all through the eyes of children?
More tears of joy as I read your insightful treasures.
You are so loved and valuable.
Thank you for sharing the gifts God has given to you.
Love you Pam! You are precious to me!
